Dear [Program Head] I am writing to apply for the Adjunct Faculty position in the English Department at Pioneer Pacific College. I hold a BA in English from Sarah Lawrence College, and an MFA in Creative Writing & Literature from Stony Brook University. As an MFA candidate, I had the opportunity to develop a strong pedagogy, teach undergraduate English, Composition and Fiction courses, publish my work, and collaborate with Program Director, Megan McAndrew, to support Stony Brook’s first Minor in Creative Writing. My teaching pedagogy is based on two principle ideas. First, that craft, grammar and strong composition can be honed by the practice of analytical reading and imitation; and second, that a strong community is essential to academic growth. As an Instructor, I strive to build strong classroom communities by asking that my students be accountable to one-another and respect each other’s commitment to education. In return, I am accountable to my students¬– to always be teaching materials I find relevant and exciting and to evaluate assignments thoughtfully, with generous feedback. I prioritize being available to my students by holding frequent office hours and by shifting my own writing habits to be more campus-oriented
