I'm an
Individual
Hello Worried Parent or Student! My name is Ryan! I have worked as a professional science and math tutor for the past 4 years. I have experience teaching college, high school, and middle school courses. Let me tell you a little about myself. I graduated from UC Santa Cruz in 2014 with a BS in Neuroscience. I graduated with a GPA of 3.9, Magna Laude, and Highest Honors in the major. I had originally planned on going to medical school after my undergraduate education; however, after applying, being rejected, and some major soul searching, I have realized that my true gift and ambition is to educate future generations. What lead me to this realization, you may ask? Experience During my Sophomore year at UCSC, I was employed by the on-campus Learning Support Center as a tutor for a lower division Molecular and Cellular Development Biology course. This was typically a 400 student course that was a prerequisite for all other Biology courses. So needless to say, there was an extremely high fail rate when I was first hired. I ended up tutoring this same course for 2 years (8 quarters), dropping the fail rate by 16%. I would see up to 80 students a week for regular tutoring and I had a 95% passing rate for my students. After graduating, I was immediately employed as a Teaching Assistant for an upper division Cellular Biology course, where I was responsible for 120 students. The following quarter I was hired as a TA for an upper division Genetics class where I would see anywhere between 80 and 150 students a week. The last quarter I was in Santa Cruz, I was a TA for both a upper division Cellular Biology course and a lower division Chemistry course (thermodynamics). In addition to my experience teaching at the UC level, I have been employed by a Tutoring Service in Scotts Valley. Here I would tutor high school and middle school students on everything from the sciences (AP/IB bio, AP/IB chem, AP/honors physics, and general biology and chemistry) to the maths (Algebra 1/2, Geometry, Statistics, and general math). I am currently working as a science and math teacher at Halstrom Academy. Courses that I will Tutor: -- High School-- AP Biology AP Chemistry General Biology General Chemistry Anatomy/Physiology Physics Prealgebra Algebra 1/2 AP Statistics Statistics AP Environmental Science Music (guitar and music theory) --College-- Molecular Biology Genetics Biochemistry Anatomy/Physiology Eukaryotic Biology Cellular Biology Neuroscience Biophysics Any lower division Chemistry Organic Chemistry Statistics Music (guitar, Ableton production, and music theory) --Middle School-- Math and Science Music (guitar, piano, and music theory) I willing to work in most areas of Orange County. Newport Beach, Irvine, Costa Mesa, Laguna, Mission Viejo, Aliso Viejo is preferred. My rate is 50$/hour. But I am willing to negotiate (especially with lower level classes) I am more than willing to show you my credential and supply you with references. But here is the real question. Why should you hire me over all the other qualified tutors in the area? -I am experienced at all levels, which allows me to distill complicated concepts into easily understandable diagrams and talks -I have years worth of experience teaching while learning, so I understand the metacognative learning process extremely well (studying psychology and neuroscience has helped quite a bit as well) -I am not only book knowledge. I have research and clinical experience, which I will be able to bring in to relate the studies to the real world -I'd like to think that I am a pretty awesome academic role model. Not just because I did well in school, but because I not just a nerd. I am a musician, an athlete, a painter, a skier, a backpacker, a surfer, and much more.
