Tutor in Northville, Michigan

I'm an
Individual
• Senior at Kalamazoo College, in the top 25% of my class, with a GPA of 3.4. • Three ( ) years of tutoring experience at an after-school homework workshop. • Classes taken in college: o Calculus I & II Introductory Physics I & II Biology 110, 120, and 240 (Intro classes and a Cell and Molecular Bio class) Chemistry 110, 120, and 210 (Intro classes and Basic Organic Chemistry) Many Psychology classes as well I also have a strong suit in writing and speed reading • This type of tutoring is designed to prepare the student for the upcoming school year, tackling problems that have arisen in the past, so that the student will be able to better face them during the school year. Each student will get a tutoring program designed specifically for them. • I can also help the student to figure out what kind of learner they are. I am a visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learner. Examples of how I use my own study techniques are: o Visual: Mapping out biological pathways on a big whiteboard. Drawing out bio-molecular compounds in detail (the more detail you draw, the easier time you'll have to remember it). o Auditory: I tape my lectures (most teachers are fine with this), and I listen to my lectures in the car, on a run, or as I am going through my notes to make connections. o Kinesthetic: Pacing around the room as I am explaining something, or I will use my hands or make specific motions to signify certain things (like in chemistry with a benzene ring, I'll draw a circle in the air). Using creative techniques to remember material is much more beneficial than sitting down trying to memorize something passively from a. I can also help students become better learners in a lecture setting, help them to be more organized and on top of homework, and juggle free time or friend time with homework. I am very adaptable and can really help with any aspect of school. ______________________________________________________________________ My hourly rate is 20-25$ an hour, depending on the amount of prep I have to do before sessions. Sessions can be up to three times a week, until the end of August. The first session will be an assessment. I will look over homework, past tests, and we might begin to determine what kind of learner the student is. In this first session, I will begin to figure out what the student struggles with in a typical school day. I can tutor in your house, or we can go to a public library.
