Hello, fellow scholars! It is my pleasure to be of academic and educational service to you. I have served the tutoring field, helping students old and young for over 8 years now. I would like to share my personal story, in hopes that it will shed light on situational circumstances and perceived realities. In elementary school, I was diagnosed with a speech impediment correlated with a learning disability. I was falling behind in class and was placed in speech therapy where I was able to work on a variety of reading and writing skills. I quickly became aware that others in my class were much farther ahead than I. I was mad, I felt defeated and unwilling to participate, I was angry at the world, especially myself. During therapy, I was given direct, one-on-one attention with minimal distractions. This time started to become very important and productive to me as I learned many effective studying and test taking techniques. At the end of the year, I learned that I tested THREE grade levels ahead in reading and writing comprehension. I was so proud of myself and it became apparent that success was a habit any individual can acquire with enough hard work. I likened success to the habit of choosing to sit in the front row of the class, no matter how tempted we are to walk to the back. It is all about the habits we acquire in our daily lives. I started tutoring in high school and I absolutely loved it. I then started tutoring in college at the local tutoring center. Over the last eight years, I have acquired my associates, bachelors, and masters degree. I am now prepping for postgraduate programs to obtain my Ph.D. and I am looking to inspire and help others in the meantime.
