Tutor in Tacoma, Washington

I'm an
Individual
I am a Graduate honor student (6th year) at Concordia University-Portland, online, for M.....-Curriculum & Instruction with double-minors in Equity Ethics & Justice and ESOL, BA in Organized Management from Ashford University, AA in Journalism from Pierce College, Certificate in Tech Support from Pierce College, Mennonite Certified Teacher. I have 24 years teaching experience as a substitute teacher and homeschool parent, background in accounting. I want to tutor so that students of all ages know they are not stupid. The way the subject is being presented just doesn't speak to the student's learning style. Any subject can be learned, albeit some taking a little longer for some than others. Last year, I brought my 9th grader's Algebra up one full letter grade after only one Algebra lesson. Paul went on to earn an A in Algebra, pass his EOC (end of course exam) AND was the only student in his class to score a 100 on his final! Am I good at Algebra? Not the way it is currently being taught, but I know how to teach and I have excellent out-of-print resources. I like to work with parents to help their child achieve an education, and am very much against "teaching to the test." Students need to learn proficiency in a subject, which is not the same as knowing how to take a test. If you are proficient in the subject, you will recognize what they are asking for on the test. My college students have all achieved an A in the subjects which required my tutoring assistance. My subjects: English,ESL, Grammar, Composition, Spelling, sewing, German, Study Skills, Algebra 1, Computer Skills, Geography, Accounting, Common Core Curriculum, History, Civics and Government,Beginning German, Native American beadwork and quilting, regalia sewing, TOEFL, Homeschool, World History, US Constitutional History, Technical Writing, Ethics, Handwriting, Native American history, Public Speaking, Marketing, Management, Human Resources, Customer Service skills, Office Management, Secretarial, Keyboard/Typing, Cherokee finger braiding and rug weaving, Tennis. All subjects tutored will include study skills. Of course, I also tutor just in study and research skills. I currently have 2 students for summer tutoring, but have space available for more. Tutoring can be done one-on-one (always at the location with which you are most comfortable), or group tutoring. My 2 summer students (boys entering 9th and 11th grade) will be tutored in Academic Arithmetic, English Grammar (parts of speech, language mechanics), and Handwriting. Joining these sessions, even for part-time, is totally an option. Some people learn better with others around, rather than one-on-one. Here's to a happy summer of learning and picking up new skills!
