My goal as a private tutor is to employ the training and skills I utilized and mastered as a classroom teacher and district reading specialist to support individual student success in the current Common Core State Standards (CCSS). I do this through the identification and utilization of all specific student strengths to support and improve their proficiency in targeted academic areas. I begin with a complete student assessment and parent interview. After identifying academic strengths and weaknesses, I build a strong individualized instructional program for your child and report specific intervention strategies used as well as offer parents additional training/strategies/materials to enhance learning within the home setting. I have been both a private school and public school teacher for over 20 years. I received recognition for my success as a classroom teacher and was given the title of Consulting Teacher in my school district, working with beginning teachers and at-risk teachers to improve their teaching practice. Additionally, I was recognized by the Camarillo Chamber of Commerce for a peer tutoring program I implemented successfully at a local public school. My interest in private tutoring began very recently when I received a telephone call from a parent who had received my name from their child's first grade teacher. While I had not met this teacher personally, her longtime classroom aide had worked with me directly and felt my skills would make me a great tutor for a few needy students and she shared her thoughts with the classroom teacher. I took on the challenge and quickly discovered how gratifying private tutoring is for this retired teacher with a continuing desire to practice the craft of coaching students to success.
