Kimberly Gantz Tutoring Services 303.859.... My skills and expertise as a tutor stem both from my strengths and experiences as a learner as well as a teacher. My approach to teaching is founded in making the learning process as applicable to life and experience to create meaning around new knowledge. I emphasize teaching the student to understand, reason and apply learning. I've found that learning to be a better learner, inspiring curiosity and the desire to understand "why" rather than merely "what," is equally if not more important than pure memorization technique and benefits a young student throughout their education. I studied nutrition and general premedical studies at Cornell University from 1994-199.... Throughout my twenties, I gained experience as a teacher through tutoring various subjects and athletic coaching at middle school, high school and adult levels in tennis, basketball and soccer as well as working with individuals as a coach/certified personal trainer. I completed my Bachelors of Arts in Psychology in 2011 and I am currently completing prerequisites for a doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and Masters in Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture. As an older student, my personal approach to learning has evolved into this appreciation for depth of understanding and the ability to reason and explain concepts. I've found knowledge details can fade and can always be reviewed when necessary, but an approach to listening and learning as well as organization and note-taking skills are permanent tools that benefit ongoing education and other aspects of life work. Although I value and engage a student in test-taking skills as grades and performance are significant, I focus on the importance of the understanding and learning process to minimize pressure and anxiety and have found that grades improve simultaneously without being the primary focus. Finally and of great importance, I find unique and fun ways to inspire each individual student. Every student has different ways of hearing and processing information. One-on-one tutoring allows me to offer an individualized teaching style to each student geared toward their personality and learning style.
