My biggest joy as a teacher has been to develop in children a love of literature. I have encountered numerous children who are bored to tears by most of the literature they encounter, and I have found great pleasure in introducing them to exciting literary characters. I teach grammar through diagramming sentences. My reason for this is twofold: First, it has a proven track record of success (over 100 years). Second, it is a visual way of illustrating the principles of grammar. Plus it's much more fun than rote memorization, because it's like a puzzle! I can assure you that with a few basic sessions of diagramming you, or your child, will become more confident in their use of the English language.
