My name is Deloris Lewis. I am from the Caribbean. I am a trained teacher of English with over seven years experience teaching English at the secondary level. The students that I teacher speak a variation of the English Language called English Creole. This is their first language, the language that is spoken locally, even though English is the recognize language of the country. This reality has created the perfect context for me as a teacher of English to teach English as a second language. as part of my roles and responsibilities, I am expected on a daily basis to plan and execute lessons that cater to my students language needs, helping them to decode meanings, build critical thinking skill, build their confidence in both written and spoken discourse and enabling them to code switch and transition smoothly from one language to the next. I have enjoyed a high success rate over the years, equipping my students with the right tools to pass their exams, both internal and external ones. of course, this was and still is not an easy task to accomplish, especially with students learning a second language. The secret is that I motivate my students in believing they are achievers. I go beyond my call of duty daily to help them succeed and, I provide real-life context within which they can practise using the target language. I consider myself to be very determine, loyal and responsible, I am able to work on my own initiative and I don't stop until a task is fully completed. I enjoy exploring new and exciting ways to deliver my lessons. I love to read and travel and experience different cultures. I love volunteerism and I ma a life-long learner.
