I have extensive experience as a private and group tutor in general and organic chemistry. In addition to understanding chemistry, I also understand the common pitfalls students run into when trying to learn organic chemistry. My background in the pharmaceutical sciences helps me tailor my tutoring style toward the pre-med audience while my masters in organic chemistry helps me challenge and inspire those with advanced interests. My educational experience: BS in chemistry (biological option) from the University of Utah 2011 MS in organic chemistry from MIT 2013 PhD student in pharmaceutical chemistry at the University of Utah 2014-present My teaching experience -Volunteer in organic chemistry help lab University of Utah 2010-201... semesters experience as a Teaching Assistant in Organic Chemistry at MIT 2011-201... (This position involved private tutoring, "office hours" style seminars, and 4 1 hour lectures per week that I prepared myself along with handouts and workshops) -MIT chemistry departmental outreach program (setting up demos for K-12 students) 2011-201... -Several private tutoring gigs for high school chemistry, general chemistry, and organic chemistry over the years. -Women's lacrosse coach, Brighton HS 2010 Why am I doing this? I'm trying to make some extra money to help cover some vet bills I have thanks to a kitty accident. Also, I am genuinely passionate about chemistry and teaching. Unlike many of your professors and TAs, I was never one of those students who just immediately "got it" and so I often relied on mentors and teachers to help me figure it out. Nowadays, my struggles have served as a guide for how to teach chemistry effectively to the scientist and non-scientist alike. I hope together we can achieve my goal of making general or organic chemistry fun and interesting! If you are interested please contact me with the following information: What class are you taking: Your major: Your learning style: (Visual/ Tactile/ Auditory/ flash cards/ problem solving) What service you'd like. When/Where you would like to study. Any specific concepts you need help with. An interesting bit about you. Good luck and I hope to hear from you! Jessica McCombs
