We can work together to improve a weak area or enrich and challenge a stronger subject of interest. I plan each lesson and provide materials to meet the student’s specific needs and goals. Lessons are efficiently focused to help the student achieve maximum results without wasting time or effort. After the lesson, I provide feedback by email to the student and parent with recommendations for continued success. Most lessons are conducted in a dedicated class area with a separate entrance at my home in Asheville, NC. This eliminates distractions and increases student attention and progress. I am a National Board-certified teacher, graduated magna laude from the University of Georgia and earned a Masters of Education degree from Georgia Southern University. I did additional post-graduate work at Georgia State University and Armstrong State University. I have 28 years teaching experience from fourth-grade through high school, concentrating most recently in AP English at Savannah Arts Academy, a public arts-oriented high school in Savannah, Georgia. During my years at SAA, the school was ranked the number one high school in the state of Georgia by US News & World Report, and was in the top 100 in the nation. I am an experienced tutor and have worked with Biltmore Tutoring and Test Prep (formerly Chyten Tutoring and Test Prep) in Asheville. I participated in NEH Landmarks Workshops on American History and culture on topics including Benjamin Franklin, Mark Twain, The Blue Ridge Parkway, and Emily Dickinson, as well as Holocaust studies conducted in Poland and Israel. I have Gifted Education certification, and worked with the National Writing Project. I am a compassionate teacher who respects the time and efforts of my students, and believe that they can accomplish amazing results. I love the natural beauty and rich arts culture in Asheville. I enjoy playing guitar, and learned to scuba dive two years ago. I live with my husband, Rick, and boxer, Toby.
