Hello,
My name is Krista and I am excited to offer tutoring services once more.
I hold a high honours degree in Sociology from the University of Regina in 2012 as well as a Bachelor's Degree in Midwifery from the University of British Columbia in 2017. I worked as a psychosocial rehabilitation worker for individuals healing from traumatic brain injuries, as a youth worker for the Government of Saskatchewan, and then, of course, as a midwife. I worked as a midwife for five years before giving up my registration to be at home with my two small children.
I considered a teaching degree (in fact, I sometimes still do), and wished to focus on special education for people with differing abilities. I love to teach! I enjoyed many parts of my job as a midwife and a highlight was definitely precepting (teaching) midwifery students. I also worked as a tutor throughout my first degree and quite enjoyed it.
I am a mother of two sweet, fun, and active small boys and need some time out of the house. I would love to help you or your child excel.
I am inspired by my own math tutor in high school - I was ill with mononucleosis for a few months and found that I couldn't catch up in that subject without some in-person teaching. A retired schoolteacher helped me very much. I liked his kindness, patience, and ability to break the topic down to a level I could pick up quickly and work with. I like to do the same for my own students - create a good rapport, assess what it is the student needs in order to thrive as much as possible, break down the information into learnable 'chunks, teach the student how to break down information in the same way, and work with them until we have developed an individualized way for them to learn and take on the subject at hand.
I offer tutoring for all elementary and middle school topics, as well as high school math, english, biology, social studies, health, science, fine arts. I am very passionate about sex education and happy to teach that independent of a course.
I love teaching students how to write essays in any topic - how to choose a topic, write a thesis, create the essay's structure, and write it including the introduction, body, and conclusion.
I offer post-secondary (university or college) tutoring for sociology up to the 400 level as well as midwifery up to the 400 level.
I also offer post-secondary tutoring for level: english (100 level), psychology (100 level), research methods, art history, health studies, media studies, reading and writing, and women's and gender studies. I think it is never too late to learn to write an essay in university and that it can seriously improve one's GPA - I offer this in any subject.
I am available most evenings and some weekends. I am happy to help with specific assignments or more general classes or skills. I like to work with people learning english as a second language so do not let that be a barrier. I have valuable experience working with individuals with brain injuries and individuals with differing abilities such as autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit disorder, and learning differences. I consider myself to be trauma-informed and have educated myself thoroughly. I am gender affirming. I have taken the San'yas course for Indigenous Cultural Safety.
Throughout my different careers I have expressed my calling to serve others in their time of need. If this is you or your child, please reach out to see if it may be a good fit. Please be as descriptive as possible in regards to what you are seeking.
I teach best in person and can offer virtual tutoring for those who need it.
Warm regards, and thank you for reading my profile!
