Hello! My name’s Hailey and I am a tutor, mother and grad student at the University of Utah. My son and education are the center of my life. I received my Bachelor’s in International Studies and am working on my Master’s in International Affairs and Global Enterprise! In high school, I received a 31 on the ACT. I recently took it again and scored a 34 (English: 36, Math: 31, Reading: 34, Science: 34). I also took the GRE and scored in the 97th percentile for Verbal Reasoning and the 75th for Quantitative Reasoning. Test Prep is my passion but I also specialize in all Language Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Spanish. I also assist in management at Totally Tutoring. I do have a life outside of academics which ideally consists of playing with my son, Kai, traveling, boating, attending underground hiphop concerts and watching the Jazz game on the couch or in the arena (if I’m lucky!). As a tutor, I have the privilege of impacting the lives of students of ALL ages in positive ways each day. I strive to ensure that each interaction I have with a student results in critical thinking, analytical and problem solving skills. I believe teaching is most effective when it is holistic in nature, not exclusive to one subject or one test. Otherwise, it becomes a perpetual cycle of memorizing and forgetting. When students develop these skills, they can apply them to their strengths AND their weaknesses and gain a new sense of confidence. Confidence is imperative to developing a propensity for education. As a tutor, you have the opportunity to be an example of somebody that is smart but balanced. I don’t believe it’s necessary to be an authoritative figure because that immediately creates an intimidating dichotomy. You are there to support them to realize and achieve their goals.
