From adolescence through adulthood, from my past positions, I developed techniques, borrowing from various cultures and eras, in order to find the central questions of all knowledge. I taught myself reading, math, English, and writing. Reliving my passion through my students is such a delight! I’m continuing my life-long purpose in my home country, Canada, where I’ll stay. Because of the slight variations in what’s a new system to me, I’ll gain and offer a fresh look, and insight, into navigating the mind’s untapped processes. This is what I have to offer. This is the niche fated to me. I’ve taught developmentally delayed students arithmetic. My instinct to nurture found a happy place. I’ve taught remedial high school students the questions to ask in solving any math problem. What is the data given? What is the unknown? What is the link between the two? Have I seen a simpler variation of this problem? What is the pathway which turns the unknown into the answer? How to execute the required steps? What did I learn from this problem? I never tire from this basic template of mathematical reasoning. I’ve taught remedial reading. Identifying the pause in a particular part of the text, then finding how the completed unit of thought correlates with the entire body of work, and possibly real world situations, shows students the life and light in the author’s work. A corollary to my aforementioned ability is knowing and teaching how to write and think. Every student is unique. By research their cultural characteristics, gaining insight into their world view, I’ve taught illiterate friends and those of foreign extraction, the wonders of thinking, articulating, and expressing in the world’s most widely used language, English. Pinpointing the gaps in a student’s repertoire is my specialty. These hinder progress, and filling them completes the ability to structure needed to further their education to their liking. I encourage their ‘liking’ to be a lifelong quest. I’m eager to gain the satisfaction of contributing to your community. Working amongst its members finds me promoting the much needed spirit of camaraderie. The teacher and student relationship of modern times has replaced the master and apprentice bond.
