Hi everyone. My name is Svetlana Portnoy. I grew up in faraway Saint Petersburg, Russia, but United States has been my home for over twenty years now. I attended college in Saint Petersburg for a year and a half before moving to the United States. Later, I continued my education here in the US and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY with the intention to have a career in the medical field. As far as my professional experience goes, I have been working in health-related field for seventeen years performing ultrasound exams, and I have acquired extensive experience translating and interpreting doctors’ reports and consultations to my Russian-speaking patients that do not understand English very well. Languages have long been my passion for as long as I can remember. The Russian language has remained an integral part of my life all these years. At home I communicate in Russian with my family. I am constantly reading Russian books and other Russian literature and I have been tutoring Russian for the last few years. At this stage of my life, I have been tutoring Russian on private basis for a few years now. I am very excited for anyone to learn my native language. I would love to have an opportunity to teach and translate using this platform, and to put my love for Russian to good use and I am confident that my detailed knowledge in the medical field would be of great asset as well.
