Tutor in Columbus, Ohio

I'm an
Individual
Hi there, My name is Mike, I recently got certified as by the Institute for multi-sensory education in the orton-gillingham technique which is why I have created a profile here. Right now, I am willing to give instruction in reading using the orton-gillingham technique for children with dyslexia and related challenges, but am also well equipped to give instruction in virtually ANY of the sciences, especially the biological sciences. I am also a history hobbyist. The only tutoring I am willing to completely exclude is music and math. All other points are negotiable, but keep in mind that I am primarily here for children with reading dyslexia. Historically, for the past 5 years, my profession has been nursing; but I recently decided to get out of the field and try something different because I don't find it very rewarding. Truth be told though, I will always keep my foot in the door of the nursing profession. That being said I have contacts and connections in the teaching industry whom suggested this choice to me, and chances are, that if your child is having difficulties, I know someone who has the answer to the problem even if I don't. Obviously my medical training is a plus with children that also suffer from health complications that impede their learning, but apart from that, I expect it to have little impact on my abilities as a tutor. Most teachers who are already practicing in the field tell me they believe I would be good with older children in particular, but I don't forsee problems with younger children either. I am told I am a fairly radical character and in addition, I am a natural outsider to this industry, so don't be surprised if I give a different perspective on things --maybe a much needed one.
