I'm an
Individual
Decades of research confirm that summer learning loss is real. According to a report released last month by the RAND Corporation, the average summer learning loss in math and reading for American students amounts to one month per year." "This learning loss is cumulative, summer after summer. It has a tremendous impact on students? success, including high school completion, post-secondary education and work force preparedness." "This waste is preventable. According to the RAND report, good summer programs with individualized instruction, can keep children from falling behind and reduce the achievement gap." That's where I come into the picture. I am a Level II teacher, and I have currently been working at the middle school level. I have a Bachelor's Degree in elementary education and a Master's Degree in special education. I have been teaching a course called AVID for the past few years. AVID is a college and career readiness course that prepares students who might normally never consider college as a real option for them, for post-secondary success in a competing global world. Both AVID and special education are all about giving students the tools they need to succeed and strategies that they will carry with them as they advance in their learning.
