I am a third year college student working toward a double major in Spanish and Linguistics. I am very passionate about Spanish and equally passionate about helping others in their acquisition of the language. I first started helping friends with their Spanish in high school and moved on to formal tutoring at my university. I have extensively studied grammar and Latin American and Spanish literature in the classroom as well as through multiple study abroad opportunities. I have intimate experience with the AP Spanish exam for which I received college credit. I am able to help with grammar ranging from the elementary level to more advanced concepts such as the subjunctive mood and complex verb tenses. I am adept at helping students gain a more thorough understanding of the language through strategies from which I’ve found success in my own studies and those whom I have tutored in the past. I come up with creative ways to clearly explain abstract concepts that will work best for each individual student. I can work with students ranging from middle school through college with flexible scheduling for regular, semi-regular or one-time sessions. It’s no secret that learning a foreign language can seem like a daunting task, which I find can be more of an obstacle to learning than the material itself. I strive to be personable and keep my meetings friendly, flexible and informal. I believe this goes a long way in taking the edge off and helps the student approach and comprehend the material with confidence.
