I am a self-employed professional tutor with 4 years of experience working for a professional tutoring company and 2 years of experience working as a professional teacher. I have a degree in civil engineering and currently work as a structural engineer. I enjoy working with students 1 on 1 or in small groups. All of my tutoring experience has been in math, science, and music. I am comfortable tutoring math from pre-algebra through college calculus or differential equations. I can teach physics through a 200 level college physics course. I would also enjoy giving guitar lessons through a wide range of levels that include basic acoustic music through finger style guitar. I have a lot of knowledge about music theory and am also able to teach this. I can work with age groups in middle school, high school, college, or older. My philosophy on teaching is this: I believe anyone can learn anything they set their mind to. I am there to break material down into simpler and simpler steps so that this learning process becomes quicker and easier for the student. One of my main goals is to start at the student’s foundation and build; I have found this creates confidence, motivation, and success in my students. I focus on a learner centered, practical approach; I believe in working through problems with the student until they have gained the confidence to do it on their own. Ultimately, I strive to teach students to teach themselves and solve problems on their own by applying problem solving techniques and learning how to find the information they need. I believe this is the key to any academic success no matter the subject or level.
