I have more than 15 years experience as an English language teacher and university lecturer in General English and English for Academic Purposes. In addition, I've taught hundreds of students in TOEFL, IELTS, and Cambridge exam preparation. Now, I teach one-to-one lessons, online and in-person, although I do love to teach classes of adults and older teens. However, I've found that one-to-one lessons can be the most effective way to learn a language—if the teacher is professional and kind. The successes of learning English come with hard work, practice, and commitment. I also am a professional academic editor of dissertations and journal articles. I lived in Portugal, France, Switzerland, and Scotland for more than 12 years and in that time taught English as my vocation. I've been fortunate to work with wonderful English teachers from Britain and Europe and meet people up-close from all over the world. These experiences have molded me into a teacher who deeply wants to understand how people learn, and learning language is really the root and branch of all learning. Teaching languages then is central to the ability of the world's peoples to communicate. So I take it seriously, but realize that the experience for students needs to be relaxed, fun, and interesting. The heart of all classes is communication and understanding.
