NYU Graduate here! I would like to save you the trouble of searching on behalf of your child/student for a tutor! I am a young, spirited, confidence builder, and an educational advocate for students. My tutoring sessions are engaging! Hands on! Idiosyncratic! I structure my sessions to best fit the child's/student's needs! I also incorporate on-going assessments, positive reinforcement, and research-based practice to ensure that students are gaining confidence and achieving success in their weakest areas! A little bit about me: My name is Jillian V. and I have a B.S. in Communicative Science and Disorder (CSD). This degree means that I studied a really BROAD subject that encompasses a range of disorders that students and other individuals suffer from; ie: language delays, dyslexia, stuttering, learning/reading disabilities, add/adhd, autism, and other sorts! I studied this because I want to become a speech language pathologist and help students achieve in school without having their disorders interfere in their studies :) From this program, I also learned to assess, target, and intervene problems to better the lives/educational experience of students by using scientifically proven practices that treat such disorders. Because of this experience, I became very proactive in assessing/targeting problems that many students suffer. As a result, after I graduated from NYU, I was immediately hired at an elementary school in California to work with 3rd-6th graders in a special needs class. There, I help the instructor implement the school curriculum such as math, language arts, and geography. Today, I walk into mainstream classes to push-in and pull-out students to help them with their English, Math, Reading, and other work! Being immersed in the public systems allows me to understand exactly what your child needs and what teachers are expecting from your child! This is what makes me the better candidate! Apart from having experience at the elementary level, I have worked at a multigenerational school in Pasadena where I worked one-on-one with Mother's of low income who needed help in ESL/TOEFL and in passing their GEDs. There, I was one of the leading tutors working with at risk mothers who needed intensive tutoring. Also, I worked alongside the educational program director to ensure that my students were receiving the attention they needed. Within the first semester, my students improved immediately.
