I have 17 years of experience teaching special education in a public school setting. I am highly skilled in delivering research based interventions. I am licensed to teach in Oregon and California. My Master's degree is in Special Education and I have completed graduate coursework in reading interventions such as Lindamood Bell and Orton Gillingham. I have extensive experience with students who have been diagnosed as having dyslexia, dysgraphia and learning disabilities. My experience and knowledge go beyond academics. I am skilled at supporting students with ADHD and Autism in the areas of behavior and social skills. Recently I have become well versed in Common Core standards and how to best support students in meeting the new academic challenges they are faced with on a daily basis. My educational philosophy is based on a Socratic approach. I believe in questioning students to their own response. Providing students with strategies they can independently use in an academic setting, empowers children to want to learn and take risks.
