Tutor in Boulder, Colorado

My name is Danielle and I am a private tutor based in Boulder, CO. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and have been teaching homeschool curricula to children ages 4-14 privately for nearly two years. I also have considerable experience working with children in a variety of other capacities. As a private, one-on-one tutor, I teach primarily in one of two ways. In some situations, I support my student in learning core subjects, as they are outlined by a homeschool-specific academic curriculum (e.g. Calvert Education). In this type of arrangement, I take on more of a supportive role and help my student learn by reiterating concepts, elaborating on material and ensuring a solid understanding of a given subject. In cases where a highly-structured academic approach does not serve my student, I offer the family consulting sessions to build an alternative, personalized curriculum that is founded on the specific learning interests and the family's needs. I have a lot of experience working with families that are seeking a truly alternative academic system for their children. Most of my clients ask me to support children that have been or are still involved with a variety of homeschool programs, such as Feet on the Earth, Living Art School and Sage Hamilton's Waldorf-inspired program. As such I am very familiar with the academic approach that is centered on students' unique needs and interests, rather than the more typical "one size fits all" approach to education. I love this about my work. I also feel very comfortable helping students that do need more typical tutoring support-- such as those attending public school and are learning the core curriculum in that setting. I am available after school and on weekend for those students. I am also an art teacher, having founded an organization that offers mindfulness-based art and science classes after school (www.....com). I offer after-school art classes and am working towards incorporating a year-long homeschool class offering as well. My students love working with me because I am quirky, intuitive and attuned to their needs. Over time, I usually find myself transitioning into a supportive role that meets my students beyond their academia. Particularly with my pre-teen students and teenaged students, I tend towards a mentorship role as our relationship evolves. I am deeply inspired by this work and hope to spend more of my time doing it.
