Looking for a tutor? I'm your gal! I would like to share with you some of the experiences I have had to prove why I am a great person for this job. In grade 8, I volunteered in the developmental learning centre at Spruce Ridge in Durham. This meant that I worked with many kids who had varying mental and physical disabilities. I quickly picked up on some basic sign language, and was able to communicate with the students and figure out what they needed or wanted. My second experience in this field was tutoring in my school’s math clinic at lunch. I worked with a few different students in different grades and streams (academic, applied, workplace), and just helped them with their homework, or worked on new concepts that they had been learning in class. It was in this environment that I decided I wanted to be a math teacher. My teacher had mentioned to one of the students that I was working with that I had been thinking about teaching as a career, and one day she looked up at me and she said, “so, you wanna be a math teacher? I think you’d be a good one.”. That has to this day been the most rewarding moment I’ve had working with a student. My most challenging practice in working with students was definitely peer tutoring an entire class of grade 10s. They were a rowdy bunch, but they were all really smart kids and it was a great experience for me. I gained knowledge in creating quizzes and marking tests, developing lesson plans, and many other things that have even helped me be a better student myself!         I hope that I have done this opportunity to show you why I am an excellent candidate for this job justice, and I am excited to hear from you soon.
