Hi! My name is Mikaela, and I'm currently completing work on my PhD at Queen's University. I live in Oakville, as I am in the final stages of writing my dissertation, and have extensive experience tutoring students one-on-one, in small groups, and teaching a large audience. This past term, I completed my first year of University level teaching for a 100-student course. I'm very comfortable working with students of all different levels, skill sets and goals, and am incredibly passionate and enthusiastic about my subject; it's important to me that students don't feel miserable doing their work, and my aim is both to help students master the mechanics while also helping them to enjoy the material. Though my own focus is in English literature, I have a background in History (especially the 19th century) and Political Science, and am accustomed to tutoring students who need to work on their written communication skills in a wide variety of subjects. As a post-secondary educator, I'm also keen to help students prepare for what can be a very jarring transition from High School to University, and have led a number of University prep sessions for grade 12 students in the past. Being a post-secondary educator, I also have a large number of written references on file from my students, and would be very happy to share them upon request.
