My first name is Tamara, but I go by my middle name, "Allen." I am a multilingual, versatile tutor with over ten years of experience and a track-record of success helping students excel. I tutor a wide range of tests including SAT, ACT, GRE, and GMAT, and academic subjects including Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, English, ESL/ESOL, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and Hebrew. I have successfully guided many students through their test prep experience and into top colleges. Using proven methods, I develop a customized plan of study in preparation for students' official test dates. Always understanding and patient, I meet students where they are and empower them with the content knowledge, tips, strategies, and techniques they need to excel. My enthusiastic, interactive teaching style engages students and encourages them to take an active role in learning. I work primarily with junior high and high school students of all levels of ability, from students who need individualized attention in order to succeed in math or foreign language classes, to over-achieving students on their way to high-ranking colleges who need to boost their test scores. I also work with adult learners at college level and beyond on GRE and GMAT as well as English as a Second Language (ESL/ESOL). My ability to speak and understand Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and Japanese (in addition to being a native speaker of English) helps overcome the unique challenges of learning English for learners from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds.
