Hello! I have a BS degree in Mathematics (Biola University) and an MFA degree in Creative Writing, Poetry (University of California, Irvine). My teaching experience includes tutoring Mathematics to High School students and teaching English Composition and Poetry to high school students as well as university students at University of California, Irvine. As evidence of my passion for education, I have teaching/mentoring experience at a local Christian church with young adults (18-25 years old), giving instruction/guidance on subjects ranging from the Bible to getting a drivers license, to basic cooking skills. I am also able to teach beginning Chinese and Japanese - reading, writing, and speaking - from having lived in Taiwan, Japan, and Hong Kong. In regards to teaching math, I enjoy explaining how mathematical concepts work and love to see students "get" it. I enjoy backtracking with my students to mathematical concepts that they already understand and build from there toward more complex ideas. In regards to teaching English, I love sentences and being precise in language use. I enjoy helping students organize their ideas in rhetorically effective ways. If you want me to teach poetry, I could not be gladder. I am based in Whittier, though I am willing to travel. My rate is $30-$50/hour (negotiable and depending on subject and travel) and each session is 2 hours. If there are multiple students per session, I am open to discussing a discounted rate.
