I'm an
Individual
Hello, I come from industrial/systems engineering, and I currently study my PhD in Machine Learning applied to Electrical Engineering. I have 15 years of experience tutoring and teaching students in Latin America, Ireland and Canada. I have tutored for students in elementary school, high school, college and university levels, and was a lecturer for undergraduate and Masters' degree levels in Engineering. I am offering Private or group tutoring sessions for the following subjects: Math, Probability, Statistics, Operations Research, Operations Management, Production Systems, Inventory Management, Mathematical Programming, Machine Learning, Mathematical Modelling, Microsoft Excel (from Basic to Advanced), Matlab and Python for scientific computing and data analysis. I can help you to understand raw material, homework/assignments, and preparing for exams, and I have been known for my knack to explain complex things in a simple way! I am used to look for examples and real life experiences that serve to illustrate complex or abstract concepts, not only for university students, but also for children. Because I am passionate about the things I teach, I have been able to make a bored child get exited for understanding where the number Pi comes from, by showing her how it is all around us. I was able to explain my abstract research project from the master's, which involved mathematical optimization and machine learning, to people who did not have a mathematical background. I am eager to help people to overcome the feeling of being unable to grasp concepts, or find motivations to follow a certain course, subject or career. I also have as a goal, to help my students feel confident of what they study and gain intuition on the subjects, so that they find their way quickly in the exams and their projects. Besides offering help with these subjects, I can also help with study skills and habits, and life skills to succeed. Part of the problem is understanding, but part of the problem is being able to cope with things and be able to stay calm in the exam. Sometimes how you sharpen your tool the days before, makes the difference when you are at the test. That tool is your mind and your health. I also am a Taichi Chuan instructor (a Chinese internal martial art that can be used as meditation in movement). Finally, I would also be glad to help you if you are studying English and/or Spanish, as I am fluent in both. I will be honored to receive your call or e-mail, and see how I can help you achieve your goals. Note: I am familiar with the diverse neurological needs that "aspies" and people in the Autism spectrum have, as well as their talents and gifts. I would be honored to work with you if you have a different neurological functionality.

Orestes was my MSc thesis tutor in Systems Engineering, in the specialty of Operations Research, at Simón Bolivar University, Caracas, Venezuela. He was a responsible, dedicated, resourceful, patient, and inspiring tutor. He never lost confidence that I would be able to finish the thesis despite the delays, and he made sure to stay in touch so I would not have the opportunity to leave this job for any futile reason. He was always looking for ways to keep me interested in the subject and finish the work, constantly recommending literature directly and indirectly related to the topic of the thesis, wich allowed me to: (1) react quickly and timely when the university asked us for changing the subject of thesis 8 days before the delivery of the preliminary draft; (2) to locate myself in the range of alternate pathways (similar to the one studied) to solve the same problem, allowing me to broaden the scope of my work and its results; and (3) to enrich my explanations on the thesis book.

Orestes Manzanilla is a great tutor. Thanks to his patience and great teaching skills I was able to understand and retain many difficult subjects. Thank you Orestes You are Amazing!

Orestes, as a teacher, has been one of the most committed to his students, and one of the most passionate about education I have ever known. He listens to his students, guides them and his classes are always enjoyable. Every time one of his students had doubts or problems understanding a subject, he always found new ways to help them understand. His rich knowledge makes his classes stand out from the others. He is dedicated and extremely professional. I can state all this, as I have had the opportunity to observe his work for more than 10 years. (P.S. my phone number has country code +58)

Orestes Gonzalo Manzanilla Salazar is a very good teacher, very patient, he has taught me the course "Détection, décision, estimation des signaux". He can always express complex problems in simple language. He often uses examples from life to make us understand better.

Sometimes students may suffer blockages during the development of their degree work, which is why it is very valuable to have a committed, available and willing tutor to form a team to achieve the successful completion of the Thesis. In particular, Prof. Orestes Manzanilla was my thesis tutor to obtain the title of prof. Master in Systems Engineering in 2013 at the Simón Bolívar University, Venezuela. In this process, Prof. Manzanilla served as a valuable coach and guided me in the resolution of different technical and personal difficulties. Some of his main contributions for the successful completion of my work were: planning of a disaggregated work structure and intermediate deliverables, monitoring the progress of the project and knowledge of: programming language (Matlab), mathematical modeling of neural networks and learning machines. I have known Prof. Manzanilla for more than 20 years in the personal, professional and teaching field. His most outstanding characteristics as a tutor are: readiness, responsibility, commitment, patience, good sense of humor, problem solving, task tracking, assertive communication, empathy, punctuality and organization. With this combination it is very difficult to fall into procrastination. I widely recommend him to be chosen as a tutor.

Orestes Manzanilla is an amazing tutor; He not only taught me some maths but also English. With him I was able to reinforce my mathematical skills and learn and improve my English before moving to the UK. I 100% recommend him as a tutor, I believe he has a great gift in how he teaches and is truly committed to this job and will make sure you truly understand.
