I am a recent graduate from the University of Florida with my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. In four months I will be receiving my Master's Degree in Special Education from the University of Florida; a program accredited by the International Dyslexia Association. The Master's Program provides a yearlong internship that I am in the process of completing and eligibility for the Florida Reading Endorsement an ESOL Endorsement and the Florida Elementary Certification. Through this five year program, I have gained skills in areas such as designing, adapting and implementing reading, writing and mathematics strategies. I have had experience in working and supporting English Language Learners, as well as using data to further develop and reflect on teaching practices. Furthermore, I understand, select and implement scientifically based reading assessments and interventions. Through my tutoring, I design, adapt, and implement word study, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension instruction. I have tutored students, and worked in classrooms for over three years and I have also taught a first grade classroom. My experience is mostly with first, second, third and fourth grade students. I am trained in Orton Gillingham and UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Initiative) tutoring, which are both proven effective methods to increase student reading skills. I tutor using a multi-sensory approach, meaning that students are learning through all different senses and modalities in order to increase memory and understanding of skills. Overall, my tutoring focuses on research based methods to improving literacy skills that are also motivating and engaging for the students, so that they are enjoying learning. My passion is truly invested in not only increasing student's reading skills, but gaining their confidence and fostering their love for literacy.
