A UBC Graduate in Combined Major in Science, specializing in Chemistry, Life Sciences & Statistics, I've come to realize that my passion and my forte is teaching. It all started when I was about eight years old. It was when I started studying abroad for the very first time. I remembered being frustrated and demoralized as an international student as I couldn't cope on what was taught in class. English was my second language and that fact alone has made me struggled in most of the subjects I took. Until today, I will not be able to forget my dedicated tutor who had helped me by recognizing my struggles, encouraged me and patiently guided me to being who I am today. Not only that, she instilled a positive and out-of-the-box learning attitude in me and I will be forever grateful for that. As such, I knew I wanted to help others just like how my tutor was very dedicated to helping me. When I was 17, I was given my first ever opportunity to teach as a Sunday School teacher at my church. Since then, I discovered my passion in teaching and nurturing children. My passion for teaching led me to my very first tutoring job at a local tutoring centre, where I tutored elementary and high school students in small groups for 2 years. With over 5 years of experience tutoring, Sciences (Chemistry, Biology and Physics) and Math naturally becomes my teaching specialty, in addition to English Language. Spending most of my teenage years in an IB curriculum has made me into an IB guru. I have lived and breathed IB and it's my turn to birth IB achievers. I love helping my students understand a little better each day and to watch their confidence in themselves grow. I do that by fostering an environment where students feel safe to try new things, make mistakes, and ultimately learn and excel. Students typically seek help in catching up with their class materials, improving their grades, and taking up new challenges by going above and beyond what they learnt in school. I will be providing ample study materials, including personalized sample tests, worksheets, and assignments For me, being able to witness a student's willingness to make mistakes and to be vulnerable is a privilege. I believe that attaining knowledge is great, but the increase in self-confidence and growth in a willingness to try is something that I instill into my students. I've taught students from many schools and curriculum, amongst others: - Stratford Hall, Vancouver - Little Flower Academy, Vancouver - Lord Byng Secondary, Vancouver - St. John's School, Vancouver - Sir Winston Churchill, Vancouver - Templeton Secondary, Vancouver - Windermere Secondary, Vancouver - Collingwood School, West Vancouver - Semiahmoo Secondary, Surrey - Burnaby Central Secondary, Burnaby - Westwood Secondary, Coquitlam - Heritage Wood Secondary, Coquitlam The subjects that I teach include: - MATH (Grade 1 to Grade 12, IB Studies, IB SL) - CHEM (Grade 11, Grade 12, IB SL, IB HL) - BIO (Grade 11, Grade 12, IB SL, IB HL) - SCIENCE (Grade 1 to Grade 10) - ENGLISH (Grade 1 to Grade 12, IB SL, IB HL) I am available for: - Small Group Tutoring - Private One-on-one Tutoring - Online Tutoring - Students in the home-schooling programs Small Group Tutoring is based on a maximum of 4 students per group. On average, there are 2-3 students per group session. Students are welcomed to join an existing group or bring their friends to be tutored together. Small group tutoring is held near the intersection of Broadway and Main, in the neighborhood of Mount Pleasant. Private One-on-one Tutoring can be done at my place in Mount Pleasant or at your home. More and more students are interested in Online Tutoring, as it can be done anywhere and anytime. All you need is a computer and a reliable internet connection. We will be using an online whiteboard for online tutoring. Students and I can upload images and/or files into the board and an audio or video call (Facetime or Skype) will be used. It's very simple, interactive and easy! I also teach students in the home-schooling programs, typically in the morning and early afternoons. Inquire for details.
