Tutor in Los Angeles, California
Hello—I'm a recent college graduate with a B..... in Applied Mathematics from Brown University. I just drove from the east coast to LA for some web design/dev work but am also seeking to tutor.
I did two independent studies on math pedagogy while in college and am passionate about eliminating math-phobia in students. I love math and seeing it applied, and seek powerful, intuition-based metaphors for students to apply in their math work. I do not emphasize memorization. You do not need to memorize something when you understand it! I have no formal training in Montessori methods but seek to use them as fitting. I tend to work from first principles and try to rarely cite external resources.
I'm young, friendly, and very approachable. I have wide interests in art, design, an music, and love engaging my tutees through their interests.
I was a TA at Brown just before graduating and have a variety of 1-on-1 tutoring experience across various ages.
I'm comfortable tutoring: algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus (AP AB/BC), physics (AP B/C), multivariate calculus, graph theory, topology, group theory, abstract algebra, differential equations, physics mechanics, electricity & magnetism, analysis, complex analysis, fluid mechanics, hamiltonian dynamics, and more.
