I have my own private tutoring company which I started 20 years ago in Maryland. I have recently moved to Florida and want my business to flourish here. The tutoring I do is my own exclusive program based on my Degrees in English, Teaching, and my Masters degree in Counseling. Having gone through the training I received gave me the realization that the traditional way of tutoring was not working. I discovered that children had other crucial needs that had to be acquired besides school material. They must be taught to acquire and accomplish and master their own unique way to become self-assertive. They also needed to discover in what area of their life they had potential to become creative. In using this technique while tutoring - students learn that perhaps they learn differently from other students. Their style of learning makes them exceptional in a positive way. They learn that their thinking is what I tell them is " outside the box." When you learn outside the box- you don't need to change. You have a unique way of learning that teachers and parents MUST learn to HONOR and RESPECT!!!! That is when you will see your child change. Is this my philosophy? It most certainly is!!!! There is no other place that I know of where everyone is required to learn in the same way in the same amount of time. You must say to yourself, "well when presented that way, she makes sense. But can she really make my child accept that learning differently is actually acceptable?" It is a combination of knowing that children do not want to be tutored. They assume that somehow they are "damaged." They could never verbalize these thoughts. It effects their self-esteem and self-worth. How do I know this? I have been tutoring children for over 20 years and I know that all children do not learn in the same way in the same amount of time. When I work with your child, he/she knows that I am not just a "tutor"- I am their advocate, their mentor and they can call me when they need help anytime. They know I will do whatever it takes to make sure their school experience is what they are equipped to accomplish, taking into account that each student learns differently and that must be adhered to by teachers. I will meet with teachers to talk about your child's needs and abilities without charging you. If I need to be at a parent conference with you - that is included in my fee. I will also attend IEP meetings, 504 meetings, and will do whatever I think is necessary to change your child's learning - this means going to school will be a positive, life affirming experience. This will mean that going to school will not be dreaded but welcomed. Only serious and dedicated parents should e - mail me at [email protected]. My fees are $50.00 for the first session which lasts an hour. During this session I spend 15-20 minutes with you, listening to your concerns. The rest of the session I spend with your child. At the end of the session, we all meet and decide whether you feel I am an excellent choice for your child. From there, we work out a schedule that works around what is best for your family. I am extremely flexible. I can work evenings, on weekends and during holidays. My fees after that are between $ 60.00- 7... an hour to come to your home twice a week. We sign a contact for five weeks. After that we meet again to acknowledge what challenges you were faced with, and what was the outcome? We decide what is needed next. A teachers conference? What would a meeting accomplish? What has your child mastered? We then decide how we want to proceed. This could mean anything from focusing on long term projects to working on a specific area of need. We meet again every five weeks to access accomplishment and evalualuate the next objective/s we feel is indicated for growth.
