Tutor in Palo Alto, California

I'm an
Individual
Experienced instructor in Java, web development (HTML/CSS/JavaScript), and scripting languages. Coding is hard, and doing it alone as a beginner often results in intense frustration and discouragement. I like to help students at these early stages - when concepts are murky and nothing seems to be working. With guidance and clarification from someone who once also struggled with coding, that frustration will transform into breakthrough. I can help if you want to: -Improve exam or assignment scores for high school or college CS classes -Complete pre-work for coding bootcamps -Learn coding from scratch -Realize a personal project -Improve debugging skills -Understand something that always confused you I have experience tutoring middle school, high school, and college students, as well as adults. I am a compassionate instructor with a sense of humor who understandings different learning styles. I am not a disciplinarian; I work with students who are struggling but not those who have no motivation to improve. Students typically see me 2-4 hours per week and also communicate by email for quick questions. Because I teach general problem solving and debugging strategies, students tend to need my help less frequently as they learn. Rate: $80/hr (trial lesson free of charge). Sliding scale available. About me: I work part time as a developer in the South Bay, and when not at the office or tutoring, I enjoy snowboarding, hiking, reading, and cooking with friends.
