Tutor in Atlanta, Georgia

I graduated with a BA in Social Work. After graduation, I moved to Georgia, for 2 years, to volunteer at a non-profit that serves youth with severe emotional and behavioral issues where I tutored in core subjects. I tutored youth ages 5-11. I provided, on average, 1.5 hours of one-on-one tutoring to each youth weekly. Many of the youth I tutored faced some sort of an educational gap. As their tutor, my goal was to help bridge that gap with one-on-one tutoring. I met the youth where he/she was educationally. Once I find out where the youth was educationally, I then found resources to use with the youth in tutoring. For example, I tutored a youth around the age of 8 that was really good at math but struggle when it came to reading. The youth had a hard to pronouncing words and identifying sight words. We spent time covering the different sounds each letter in the alphabet makes individually and when combined. I brought in worksheets, made flashcards, and I even created numerous Bingo boards with the sight words that we learned. We played a lot of educational Bingo! Playing Bingo with the sight words gave the youth the opportunity to see the word, hear how it sounds, and find it on his/her playing card. The next time the youth sees the word, the youth will know it. Seeing the progress in the youths education is one of the main reason why I love tutoring. At times, all an individual who is struggling educationally need is a person that believes in him/her, and a person to walk him/her through the process of learning and thinking critically. As a tutor, my job is not to give the youth the answer to their work, but rather equip them with tools and resources to think critically and outside the box. *PLEASE READ* Tutoring locations must be public.
