I help students develop and practice strategies for academic achievement, life-long learning, self confidence, and social awareness and success. I am a doctoral student at OISE, have taught in the public school system in the US, and tutor young people from elementary grades through high school. I am also a mother, and have a young person who is currently in her second year of university, so I understand both the student and parental point of view. The key is an individualized approach to help the student better understand their learning styles, how to maximize their strengths, and how to develop better habits and skills in areas where they need to improve. I offer a free assessment, and then develop an individualized education plan that can address study skills and note taking, time management and test taking, reading comprehension and analysis, critical thinking and problem solving, writing, research, reports, essays, setting and meeting goals, creating habits for success, decision making and emotional intelligence, stress reduction, effective listening and communication. By listening to the student, and helping them to take ownership of their own learning, they develop confidence, intrinsic motivation, and independence. These skills and this awareness applies not just to one subject or grade, but to character development and learning strategies that will serve them for their academic success and more. I believe that every student is gifted, and I help the student discover, hone, and apply those gifts so they can successfully meet current and future challenges with awareness, efficacy and confidence. This is not just an optimistic point of view. It's based on pedagogical research, which tells us that the most significant variable in student achievement is teacher expectations. So as as teacher, I have high expectations for the student, and know how to create the ladder, so that the student can achieve success, step by step. I have worked with students with learning disabilities, ADHD, dyslexia, stress and anxiety conditions, procrastination issues, as well as students who are very successful and looking for an additional challenge, enrichment, achievement, and fulfillment beyond what is available in the classroom. I currently have openings for a few more students.
