Hello! My name is Karla and I am a 1st grade teacher with a passion for teaching! I specialize in teaching phonics, comprehension strategies, fluency practice, writing, and common core math strategies. Credentials: I studied at BYU-Idaho and received my Bachelors in Early Childhood Education/Special Education. Afterwards I student taught in Utah and got my first teaching job at the school I student taught at in 2013. I have taught there for 4 years now and absolutely love helping kids learn how to read and feel successful in reading, writing, and mathematics. I also received my Masters Degree from WGU in 2016 with a degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I completed my thesis on peer editing in writing instruction. I am newer to tutoring, I have been tutoring from my home for a couple of months, and plan to start tutoring virtually (online). I have been tutoring a little girl that is a grade level behind in reading. She has already showed great improvement with my tutoring program! I am used to teaching one on one and in small group. The school I teach at is a title 1 school, meaning that there is a wide range of needs and abilities. It is my job to make sure that all of my students feel successful despite their language and/or social barriers. I have experience working with ESL students as well as students with special needs.
