Tutor in Seattle, Washington

I am a former 9th and 10th grade Language Arts teacher with a background in literature. I studied and earned my first Masters degree in Education and Literacy from Seattle University, and have my undergraduate degree in English Literature, also from Seattle University. I am currently enrolled in my second graduate degree program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, but love teaching and learning with students while I am back in school! I have been tutoring for four years. In the past, I've worked with high school students preparing for the AP English Literature & AP English Language exams, in addition to enhancing their essay structure, grammar, syntax, critical reading and thinking. Tutoring in English Literature is different than math or science tutoring; it involves engaging the student's ability to access their own creative thinking and communicate those thoughts eloquently and effectively. As a recent graduate with highest Departmental Honors in my field and a designated AP Scholar, I understand the importance and minutia of writing in all forms - advanced argumentative, Jane Schaffer format, white papers, proposals, etc. - I am able to proofread the student's essay whenever they have an assignment, or, I prefer to work weekly with the student to go over their syllabus and prepare for future essay prompts. AP preparation should involve once or twice weekly studying verbal reasoning example questions and practicing timed essay writes. Moreover, I'm punctual, personable and encouraging.
