I have a BS in accounting from Xavier University of Louisiana and am currently studying for the CPA exam while working as a professional in the accounting world. I enjoy helping students excel and I have a gift of patience and understanding when it comes to teaching others. I have participated in both volunteer and private tutoring while in college. I also tutored in after school programs while in grade school. I work hard to help students learn the skills that are needed in order to move to the next level. I have helped many college students and professionals overcome obstacles and navigate challenges to meet their goals. I've tutored both children and adults in accounting, math, tax, and finance classes. I've also trained workers how to use Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks. As a tutor I leverage knowledge and experiences to develop a person-centered approach to helping students. I first gain an understanding of what is the class requiring, then what is the student s level of understanding, and finally I develop a road map to close the gap. After working with students of varying ages and backgrounds, I have learned that the key to productive tutoring sessions is discovering what motivates each student, and establishing a strong foundation of the basics. I try to make my sessions as engaging as possible, using games, real world examples, and mnemonics to help my students learn. I have found that these strategies really help students retain, and more importantly, understand concepts.
