Hi! My name is Laura, and I live in the southwest metropolitan area of Minneapolis. I am a native English speaker. I have always loved the English language and have a natural affinity for it - I have always scored in the 99th percentile of the language sections on standardized tests. When I first started college (many years ago!), I wanted to teach remedial English. Though I switched to Sociology (I have a Master's degree), I believe I can teach anyone to read and/or write more effectively and efficiently. Grammar, spelling, and punctuation are my friends :) Some words people tend to use to describe me are: Intelligent, patient, calm, easy to get along with, funny, compassionate, kind. I love to help people (my former career was in social services) and believe that it takes a village. My opinion is that education (both formal and informal) is the foundation of a successful, fulfilling life, as it opens the door to so many opportunities. In my free time, I love to play tennis, write (fiction and essays), and I love photography. I don't watch much TV, so I don't know the names of the current selection of reality TV shows or who the new "Bachelorette" is - but I don't think that's a bad thing! ;) I believe most of us are really hard on ourselves and don't give ourselves enough credit for the things we do. I also believe that learning and growing as a human being are integral to living a meaningful life. I live in the suburbs with my wife, her mother, and three cats. :) I especially love to work with adults, college students, and middle- and high-school students.
