I'm an
Individual
My name is Daniel. I'm an experienced math instructor at the community college level. I have loads of experience of working one-on-one with students, both as an instructor and as a tutor working in a more supplemental role. I especially like working with high school students preparing for college, but I've worked with students from elementary school all the way to students into their 60's. I'm very enthusiastic about math and like to think that I have a knack for rubbing that enthusiasm off on others. I'm happy to help students with existing coursework, supplementing the work with explanations & further examples or, for students looking to get a jump on future classes, I'm comfortable introducing new topics and bringing in some of my own material that I've developed over the years. I'm comfortable tutoring pre-algebra concepts, algebra (beginning and advanced), trigonometry, pre-calculus, all levels of calculus (my particular favorite!), as well as statistics, differential equations, linear algebra and some more advanced topics, including number theory, combinatorics, graph theory, and group theory (little more rusty on those, but I love to dust off that knowledge now and again). I live in Beaverton and prefer to meet around there, but I'm fairly mobile and am willing to meet anywhere in biking distance - my preferred mode of travel in the summer. Common places I've worked with students are coffee shops, PSU campus, Beaverton Library, Powells Books, etc. My rates range from $30 - $40/hr, depending on travel distance and level of math (required prep time and such). I offer lower rates if we meet for 2 hours. eg. $25/hr for 2 hours vs $30/hr if just one hour A little about myself: I'm very active and love the outdoors (nothing better than summer in the northwest) - running, cycling, camping. I also love reading (currently re-reading Tolkien's Silmarillion...yes a little nerdy). I'm not teaching this summer, so looking for some extra tutoring to stay busy and stay sharp - and simply to talk as much math as possible. My wife and I have a newish baby girl (11 months) at home and I'm looking forward to spending lots of time with her this summer! Thanks for looking at my profile! Hope to hear from you.
