Royal University, Calgary, AB English Major Academic highlights: creative writing, critical writing, grammar, literature studies and poetry February 2014- June 2014, Global TESOL College, Edmonton, AB TESOL Certified Specialized in: tutoring, business English, as well as teaching children, adolescents and adults Employment History June 2016- August 2016, Tamwood International Camps, Vancouver, BC Art instructor: created programs for both teens and children, emphasis on L2 acquisition. Twelve classes a week, with 30 students for six weeks. Lessons included art from other cultures like the Egyptians and Haida people, as well as intricate crafts like dream catchers, pointillism and paper quilling. Focused on teaching Students: colours, items around the room, how to ask for help, as well as adjectives and verbs to do with our project that day. I.e. cutting, pasting, colouring etc. Key holder: responsible for lesson plans, class set up, inventory and organizing Jan 2012- July 2014, Beacon Literacy Inc, Calgary, AB English and Phonetics instructor: responsible for following a strict curriculum built for both English speaking and ESL students. The focus was on sounding out words as a memory tool for spelling. Grammar was taught incrementally, and always within the greater lesson. Students assisted in checking their own work. I recorded them speaking out their weekly lesson and then they practiced with the recording at home. Created additional assignments catered to students’ personal needs, such as b/d practice for dyslexics, dictionary lists for new words found in the lesson, rhyme sheets, fill in the blanks, and paragraph correction. Beacon Literacy maintained a reading grade increase of one grade level, using the Boder Test, within 20 weeks. My students’ average was a 2.5 reading level increase. Math instructor: I created basic math curriculum for primary students, which included many varieties of worksheets focusing on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. General study skills: For high school students who needed help with English, science and social studies. Assisted with essay writing, knowledge retention (through memorization techniques like flash cards, acronyms, patterns) time management, and reading comprehension.
