My name is Karen and I have lived in Bellingham for almost 40 years. I have 25 years experience teaching ages 5-8. I am especially passionate about teaching literacy. I excel at helping students who are below grade level in reading, writing and spelling. I use a combined method of teaching phonics, comprehension, accuracy, vocabulary and fluency. I will motivate your child to love learning to read and write using a variety of games, iPads apps, and engaging lessons. If your child is behind their grade level or if you just want to make sure your child does not fall behind over the summer I would love to tutor him or her. I will assess your child's reading and writing skills and plan lessons to build on your child's strengths as well as deficits. I will continue to monitor your child's reading and writing growth, and keep you informed of his/her progress. I am available during the day or evening this summer and during the evening and weekends during the school year.I would recommend at least once a week for an hour but to see more rapid growth I would recommend 2-3 times per week for an hour.
