Hi! My name is Leslie. I am currently in my senior year at UNCW majoring in English and Psychology. I am have also taken several Education courses. I have been tutoring from K-college since 1998. I am also a professional nurse with over 30 years experience. I have experience tutoring students who are English Language Learners. I have excellent writing and proofreading skills and can help students at all levels improve their writing, composition and grammar. Many of my students are studying for careers in health sciences and also are English Language Learners. I am very skilled in teaching medical terminology and how to communicate in English in the Health Care Setting. Every initial lesson begins with an assessment of my student’s current abilities and needs. We assemble some short- term goals. I teach effective study habits that work for each student, based on his or her unique skill set and needs. With my younger students, I focus on learning and making leaning fun. I can help students overcome test anxiety. I can help with homework, but I do not do the work for my students. I am available via Skype or in person. I am willing to meet students at quiet, public locations such as the local library or a quiet restaurant or coffee shop that is easily accessible for the student. My first lesson is always free. This allows for the student, parent and I to determine if we are a good fit. For homebound students, I am willing to come to the home, but require the parent or guardian to be present in the home while we work together. I am available 7 days a week, usually in the evenings, but I do have some morning slots open and some weekend times open at this time. My goal is to help every student that I work with to succeed to the best of their ability. I charge $18.00 per hour via Skype and $20.00 per hour in person. I have packages available for established students that offer discounted rates. If I must travel greater than 20 miles, I increase my rate a small amount to help cover the extra travel time. I am very flexible and accommodating. I am available for late night tutoring via Skype for older students who prefer to work late. Thank you.
