My name is Miriam. I graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Since then, I have taught English and Language Arts for over four years. I also have some experience with teaching elementary level (K-6) math. Since I was young, I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. Explaining things to others and helping them understand the things that I understood came as second nature. In my time as a teacher, I have been able to experience many different age groups, learning types, as well as both classical teaching techniques and modern learning technologies. This has opened my eyes to the world of using various teaching techniques to adapt to the learning needs of many kinds of students. Just as all of us are unique human beings, we are also unique learners. I love specializing in teaching ELA (English and Language Arts) because I believe that reading and writing are the ways we express ourselves and interact with the world around us. The better we can do that, the better we can express our unique ideas and thoughts with the world around us. ELA is also especially important, since many other subjects rely on the strength of a student's reading and writing abilities. I once read a quote in a book that said something along the lines of, "Reading is like breathing in, and writing is like breathing out." That is how I feel a child's relationship with reading and writing should be. I consider it my job to help them be the best readers they can be, so that they can inhale all of the unique ideas and information the world has to offer, and can then, as writers, exhale all of their brand new and beautiful ideas into the world. I have been reading and writing Arabic since I was a child. I can speak conversational Arabic, as well. I studied in Jordan, and have also studied Arabic in high school as well as university. After university, I have continued to study Arabic, increasing my vocabulary by reading Arabic texts daily.
