I am a retired math teacher and current tutor with over forty years of experience. I am a "kid at heart" who is always inspired when I see a student at any age successfully learn something. Twenty-eight years a teacher in Baltimore, I successfully worked with both middle and high school students at all levels of math skill development, including special-need, at risk, as well as gifted and talented youngsters. I can tutor in all math subjects from counting to calculus. My strengths from my years of experience include assessing and targeting a child's exact needs, supporting homework, showing the student how to study math and setting up a home program of math study ( if parents want me to) to improve her/his math comprehension and grades. I motivate students to want to study by showing them "easy" ways to do math and motivating them with fun and challenging questions (learning games for elementary and middle school kids) and applications of mathematics to real life. By seeing continuing tangible successes during our sessions, they will gain self-confidence which is key to continuing study and improving test scores. Currently I very successfully tutor mathematics at Tidewater Community College, both the Norfolk and Portsmouth campuses. Students of all ages there compliment me on how easy I make math as well as my patience. This college experience is very rewarding for me.
