Resume of HERBERT INHABER (702-894...; e-mail: [email protected]; 3920 Mohigan Way, Las Vegas NV 89119) Dr. Inhaber has held a general teaching license from the Nevada Department of Education, specializing in mathematics, physical science and physics. He received the ETS (Educational Testing Service) Recognition of Excellence, finishing in the top 15%, for his performance in the Mathematical Content examination. He has also been a licensed substitute teacher in the Clark County (Nevada) School District, teaching mathematics and other subjects. Dr. Inhaber taught for five years at the Physics Department of Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. The second year elective course that he developed, “Physics of the Environment”, was later published as a book. Dr. Inhaber has been a teacher at the University of Phoenix (Las Vegas), teaching mathematics and business statistics, and ITT Technical Institute (Henderson, NV), teaching first and second-year college mathematics. He also was a Visiting Professor in the School of Environment and Forestry and Department of History of Science and Medicine at Yale University. He has also tutored students, both in high school and adults, for the GED, SAT, GRE, Nevada Math Proficiency Exam, and other standardized tests. He formerly was a Senior Risk Assessment Expert at the Harry Reid Center for Environmental Studies, University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He has been a Principal Scientist at Westinghouse Savannah River Co., Aiken, South Carolina, where he performed research on risk and energy. Dr. Inhaber holds a B...... from McGill University, Montreal, Canada; an M.S. from the University of Illinois, Urbana; and a Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma, Norman, all in physics and mathematics. He is the author of eight books: WHY ENERGY CONSERVATION FAILS (Quorum Books); SLAYING THE NIMBY DRAGON (on finding waste sites) (Transaction Press); ENERGY RISK ASSESSMENT (Gordon & Breach); ENVIRONMENTAL INDICES (Wiley-Interscience); PHYSICS OF THE ENVIRONMENT (Ann Arbor Science); WHAT IN THE WORLD? (on foreign policy); HOW RICH IS TOO RICH? (as senior author with S. Carroll, Praeger); and a book on folk masks around the world. He has published about 150 scientific articles and reviews, on subjects such as risk analysis, environmental quality, physics, nuclear energy, economics, mechanical engineering and sociology of science in such journals as Science, Nature, Risk Analysis and Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Dr. Inhaber has written over 200 newspaper columns and op-ed pieces in such papers as the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and the Christian Science Monitor. His work has been cited over 2700 times in the scientific literature, including over 1100 books and monographs. He has been cited in many foreign languages (German, French, Hungarian, Danish, Finnish, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish and others) in the books that quoted him, as well as other languages in journal articles. In terms of risk analysis, he has lectured on the subject in many states and in 15 countries. Dr. Inhaber has been the author of five encyclopedia articles: (a) McGRAW-HILL ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ENERGY (1980); (b) McGRAW-HILL STANDARD HANDBOOK OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE, HEALTH & TECHNOLOGY (2000); (c) ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ENERGY (Academic Press, 2004); (d) ENCYCLOPEDIA OF WATER (Wiley, 2004) and (e) ALTERNATIVE ENERGY AND SHALE GAS ENCYCLOPEDIA (Elsevier, 2016). Dr. Inhaber is a Fellow of the American Nuclear Society, was elected to its International Board of Directors and served for three years as chair of its Public Policy Committee. He has been on the editorial board of three journals: Risk Analysis, Risk Abstracts, and Scientometrics (sociology of science).
