Hi there! My name is Julia and I've been tutoring ever since I was in high school (graduated back in 2007.) I have tutored numerous subjects of all ages and absolutely love it! I have my undergraduate degree as a neuroscience B.S. major from University of California, Riverside and have always been a straight-A student. I switched gears a bit and got my masters in clinical psychology from Pepperdine University. However, I always would like science and math to be a part of my life (I miss it to be honest) and so tutoring it is a privilege for me. Not only is tutoring a great gig, but I absolutely love it. For example, I have a student right now in middle school who is a professional dancer but is only able to dance if she maintains a minimum GPA. I brought her math grade up from a D to a B and I find it extremely gratifying. I think tutoring will always be a side gig of mine for the simple fact that it makes my life more meaningful. The main subjects I tutor are math and science, but I have done many others... psychology, philosophy, English, writing, proofreading/editing, study skills, jewelry-making, crafting, you name it! :D I've also tutored a number of unique situations. For example, while I was in graduate school, one of my classmates got a brain injury in Iraq and was not able to memorize easily. I tutored him in the classes we took together and helped him retain the information. I have also tutored students with disabilities such as ADHD/ADD, autism, borderline personality disorder, etc. I'm a great motivator (one of the many reasons why I chose to be a therapist as my profession) and so not only do I help students with the material needed to learn, but I also encourage and try my best to make it fun. My philosophy on tutoring is... it is all about the teacher. In addition to the class knowledge needed, I help my students understand their professors. In order to get the grade that is desired, it is all about what they personally find significant and what they believe you should learn.
