S.T.A.R.S. is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to focus on the daily challenges of youth and young adults, ages 7 through 21. S.T.A.R.S is based on the needed skills for real world experiences. S.T.A.R.S. is looking for a volunteer manager/ tutor that will be able to tutor as well as manage the other tutors which will be in a DC charter school after-school program from 4p-5:30p on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The volunteer organizes and implements the after school programs in order to serve the needs of students at DC public, private, and charter schools to achieve S.T.A.R.S. goals in State in reading and math. The volunteer provides leadership and direction to a number of volunteers and works cooperatively with board members, as well as partner organizations and businesses, and promotes outreach among the diverse populations of the State. The volunteer is supervised by the CEO and manages other volunteers. DUTIES: • Develop and implement a comprehensive volunteer recruitment program to meet the needs identified in the annual volunteer program plan. Maintain the volunteer data base and an inventory of volunteer needs for the state program, matching skills and abilities to projects; track and report on volunteer projects and hours contributed. • Work with Chapter staff to develop volunteer job descriptions, orientation and training programs for current projects. Identify and develop new volunteer initiatives. Develop volunteer evaluation procedures and recognition system. Train staff and volunteers on the fundamentals of working with, and supervising, groups of volunteers. • Organize and manage volunteer participation in stewardship field work days. • Coordinate volunteer needs for special events, including site and program logistics and volunteer participation. • Perform other duties as assigned. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, teamwork orientation, and ability to motivate a wide range of people. Sensitivity to issues of cultural diversity. • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated writing ability • Demonstrated ability to initiate and manage projects • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team and with all levels of staff, Board, membership and volunteers. • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as well as willingness and ability to work outdoors • Ability to learn about, commit to, and educate others on the organization's conservation mission.
