I have the knowledge, skills and ability to help students of all ages and backgrounds reach their full potential. Most recently, I was a reading specialist in Singapore, where I worked for an educational enrichment center. In that position, I used a phonics-based instructional system to help young readers. I also helped more advanced readers develop strategies to improve their reading comprehension as well as their writing skills. Prior to working in Singapore, I was a high school social studies teacher in Mississippi. In this position, I facilitated student-centered learning activities which allowed students to develop a personal connection with educational materials. During my time as a social studies teacher, my students demonstrated growth on standardized tests. I enjoy bringing subjects to life by using a variety of instructional techniques, including videos, music, discussion and writing exercises. I have also served as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher in Thailand. Hence, I am comfortable and capable of serving students whose first language is not English. I believe my professional experiences, combined with my desire to helped students of all backgrounds achieve academic success, will allow me to be an effective tutor. I am married, but my wife and I do not have children at this point. We enjoy traveling, reading, watching documentaries, and spending time outdoors. I have a BA in Political Science from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and a MA in Public Administration from the University of Colorado at Denver. I am currently pursuing my educators license in Colorado as well as seeking teaching positions at local community colleges, My wife is in the process of applying to PhD programs for school counseling.
