English is a subject that continues to be important outside of the classroom. One of the most important and pertinent skills that English teaches students is the ability to write. Having strong writing skills can set individuals apart in the professional world. According to any English professor, the best way to be a better writer, whether academic or creative, is to read more. Reading and writing have a symbiotic relationship. I have a Bachelor's degree in English and I want to share my knowledge and passion for English, whether it be learning the ABC's, reading, writing, or English at the highest level. To help those who struggle in English topics or want to improve their reading and writing skills, I have started Illuminate Tutoring. Illuminate Tutoring focuses on individualized lesson planning and designing a lesson plan that is custom fit to you and/or your child. I believe in a goal based teaching approach, but if is not the most effective way to get results from my students, I am more than happy to try different approaches. A tutor should figure out what works best for their students, not do what is easiest for them. A goal based teaching approach, is essentially creating a series of small goals that lead up to a large goal. This style of teaching helps students achieve validation and a sense of accomplishment, it also provides a progress marker for both my self, students, and parents. I have been working as a nanny for the past 2 years for a family with four boys, two of which are special needs twins (developmentally delayed to to premature birth). So, I am extremely comfortable working with children of all ages. During my undergraduate career, I have taken numerous courses that have provided me with the knowledge and strategies to teach individuals, whether children or adults, how to improve their reading, writing, and English skills.
